Surveying
Last Update 2/28/2019
1. Will a field book be provided at competition or should we bring our own?
Teams must bring a field book for recording answers as part of their competition equipment
2. Are we allowed to have a motorized total station? If not, what kind of total station is allowed for the competition?
We do not have a preference regarding the type of total station your team uses. Teams are able to bring any total station they have access to.
3. What type of theodolite is allowed for the Instrument Set-Up portion (Event 3) of the Surveying competition? An optical plummet or an electronic (laser) plummet?
We will be supplying the SAME total station to all competing schools for Event 3: Timed Tripod Setup. The total station provided has a laser plummet.
4. Are we allowed to have two (2) reflectors/prisms for the competition?
We are only allowing teams to use one reflector/prism during the competition.
5. Will we have a separate time for doing calculations for Event 1?
Each team will be allotted 40 minutes to complete Event 1, including recording all measurements and completing all calculations. However, teams will have a designated timer recording any unused time for each event. And once teams finish their third event, if they have any extra time remaining they will be allowed to go back and finish any incomplete calculations or attempt the bonus Event 4.
